Verification procedures for Ohio workshops

4C offers specialized workshops to assist providers in meeting Step Up To Quality benchmarks. These workshops and procedures are often developed by the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (OCCRRA) to ensure consistent delivery of services statewide. OCCRRA asks all agencies to implement the procedures in a way that best serves all child care programs.

Before registering for any workshops, please refer to the Step Up To Quality prerequisites for more information about the specific training requirements. 4C specialists are also available to help with registration or to develop individual professional development plans.

For Infant and Toddler Teachers:

Overview no longer required, but recommended: The Infant and Toddler Guidelines Module One: The Overview is no longer a SUTQ prerequisite to attending other modules. You are encouraged to take this workshop first since it offers foundational information that is important for all infant and toddler teachers. Taking this workshop first may help you better understand the additional modules.

Ten hour prerequisite: 4C is no longer required to verify attendance at any infant and toddler workshops. However, please be aware that SUTQ requires infant and toddler teachers to take ten hours of the Infant and Toddler Guidelines modules before taking additional training in order to count this towards your annual specialized training requirement.

For Preschool Teachers:
Ohio Early Learning Content Standards Overview Required: It is required that participants complete the OELCS Overview or one of the following approved alternatives before moving on to take additional OELCS workshops.

  • Pre-K/K SIRI (State Institutes for Reading Instruction)
  • Three-hour overviews provided by the SST’s (formerly SERRCs) with additional ELCS training totaling five hours.
  • Other “Overview” or Introduction to the ELCS that are approved by ODE and at least 5 hours in length.
  • Other “Overview” or Introduction to the ELCS that are approved by ODE and additional ELCS training totaling five hours.
  • ECE Curriculum-related coursework taken from an accredited 2 or 4-year institution from 2003-present.

Verification Procedure:
Please bring in-service forms to the workshop and present them upon sign-in. 4C will verify and provide a Verification Form to each participant. If the participant does not present documentation, a fax form will be provided. The forms can be faxed in and a verification form will be mailed.

Please contact Julie Witten, 513-758-1226, in Southwest Ohio or Becky Evemy, 937-723-2726, in Miami Valley, for questions or if you are interested in learning about a few workshops that are considered an approved alternative to the Early Learning Content Standards Overview.
