Preschool teachers take learning outside!
August 13, 2014
4C for Children, in partnership with the Cincinnati Nature Center and The Arlitt Child and Family Research and Education Center at the University of Cincinnati, provided a unique learning opportunity for early care and education teachers to deepen their understanding of incorporating nature and the outdoors into their programs.
Angie Good from 4C and Tisha Luthy from Cincinnati Nature Center developed an interactive five-session curriculum, called “Nature is Free,” and taught teams from 12 Ohio and Kentucky early childhood education programs using 4C’s Community of Learners model. This innovate teaching method combines classroom learning with hands-on coaching that helps participants implement what they learn in training into their classroom.
The group participated in sessions where they discussed attitudes towards nature, incorporating nature into curriculum, designing an outdoor environment and supporting children's learning in nature. They also had a day to tour local nature playscapes.
