New online tool for finding child care now available
October 15, 2014
"Searching for quality child care in Ohio just got easier!" says Carolyn Brinkmann, director of parent services at 4C for Children, a child care resource and referral agency serving 15 Ohio counties. The reason: the new Ohio Child Care Finder now available on the 4C website at www.4cforchildren.org/findcare. "This new online search tool has it all," she says.
4C has been providing free referrals for child care, preschool, Head Start, afterschool programs and family child care to parents since 1984. Early on these referrals were made over the phone and, in 2003, an online search tool, with many limitations, was made available. But this new search tool is state of the art, says Todd Barnhouse, CEO of the Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association. OCCRRA collaborated with 4C and other Ohio resource and referral agencies to bring this child care finder to Ohio's families.
This tool cannot be used for Kentucky child care searches, however. Kentucky parents must still go to chfs.ky.gov/dcbs/dcc/findchildcare to find child care options.
The new online tool allows searching for child care and education programs anywhere in Ohio by merely typing in a ZIP code or a city. "This is a wonderful tool for any parent who is moving and needs to scout out child care options in another town," says Brinkmann. Choosing child care is an important decision, she continues. "This new tool, with many ways to filter options, helps parents find what will work for their family."
The Ohio Child Care Finder also includes additional resources for families, including tips for selecting quality child care, financial assistance information, current licensing issues, information about Step Up To Quality (Ohio's five-star rating system), questions to ask during a site visit or phone interview, and much more!
