Kentucky Children Need Your Support!
March 30, 2016
The Kentucky House and Senate budget conference committee is meeting NOW to decide how the Commonwealth of Kentucky will invest state resources for the next two years.
It is critical that they hear from Kentucky residents about the importance of investing in high-quality child care and preschool for young children and working families.
Kentucky residents are urged to contact their state legislators as soon as possible to voice their support for early childhood investment. Ask them to:
- Raise the income eligibility level for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) to 160% of the current federal poverty level. Currently, only families at or below 150% of the 2011 federal poverty level qualify for CCAP.
- Raise the income eligibility level for public preschool to 200% of the federal poverty level. This provides greater access for working families across the Commonwealth.
- Provide funds to implement innovative public-private partnerships between preschool and private child care to ensure full-day, high quality educational opportunities for eligible Kentucky children.
- Maintain investment in preschool at the fiscal year 2016 level.
