Kindergarten Readiness Program Expands to Dayton
February 28, 2017
4C for Children's Play & Learn groups are expanding into the Dayton Metro region beginning March 17. The new Dayton group will meet at the Trotwood Branch of the Dayton Metro Library on the first and third Friday of every month from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
"We are excited to offer this kindergarten readiness program to the families and children in our northern service area," says Vanessa Freytag, president/CEO of 4C for Children. "Because children are constantly learning through interactions and play, it's important for caregivers to understand how they can create learning opportunities for children through daily activities and that's just what this program does."
The target audience for these free, biweekly groups is young children (birth to age 5) not in formal child care programs along with their parents or family, friend or neighbor caregivers. 4C first began offering Play & Learn groups in nine Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky communities in September 2015. Today, the program has expanded and serves 13 communities in the two regions.
The groups, based on the national Kaleidoscope Play & Learn® Program, are led by trained facilitators who plan culturally and developmentally appropriate play activities for children that they and their caregivers participate in together.
Through experiences at these group sessions, adults learn what they can do to support children's healthy development and learning so they are ready to begin kindergarten.
"These groups are great opportunities for children to gain learning skills to help them become better prepared for kindergarten while having fun participating in learning-through-play activities and interacting with peers," says Heather Byrne of 4C Family and Community Services.
She adds that the program is also an ideal network builder for the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors and friends who care for young children.
