4C for Children has developed six video resources and kits for adults to help support children’s early learning and development. The videos show how every day activities can be used to benefit children and help them develop lifelong skills.
Watch the Quick Connections videos to learn more about the following:
Family Routines
Establishing routines in a family structure gives children something they can expect and count on every day. Without being overly strict, be as consistent as you can and you’ll see how much your child and family benefit.
Math in Everyday Life
Everywhere we go, math is all around us! All you need to do is look for it and find creative ways to bring it to life.
Power of Play
Young children learn best through play. When a child is having fun, they experiment more, their vocabulary grows and they expand their understanding of the world around them. Play can be silly and serious. Remember to show your child how much fun you’re having too.
Social Emotional Development
Young children often don’t have the skills or language to express their emotions. Understanding, supporting and helping children recognize their emotions encourages them to be open about how they feel. This helps children learn to recognize their feelings and control how they express themselves with others. These are important skills to learn when entering larger social groups like schools.
Managing Big Feelings
Young children are actively learning how to understand the world around them and may not yet have the skills or language to express their feelings. This can cause frustration for both the child and you. Sometimes the child may need help with a task or solving a problem. But most importantly, they need our compassion and empathy.
Power of Everyday Conversations
One simple thing you can do to have a significant impact on a child’s development is to engage in open-ended conversations which require more than “yes” or “no” responses. These types of simple, back-and-forth conversations help a child build a larger vocabulary, understand complex issues and think critically about the world around them.
